Mount Saint Vincent Named One of the Nation’s Best Small Colleges
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent has been named one of the Top 50 Best Small Colleges in the U.S. by Best College Reviews, an independent college review journal.
“The motto at the College of Mount Saint Vincent is, ‘Teach me goodness and discipline and knowledge,’” the journal notes. “That captures the essence of this small, private Catholic school.” The journal also highlighted the College’s commitment to a strong, service-based education, stating that Mount students contributed more than 3,500 hours of service in 2014.
“We are pleased to have again been recognized for providing exceptional opportunity for students of all economic backgrounds,” said Mount President Charles L. Flynn, Jr. “We are proud that the College of Mount Saint Vincent is true to the traditions of high quality education.”
Best College Reviews gathered data from the National Center for Education Statistics on enrollment, retention, graduation rate, tuition, and degrees to create the rankings. The list was compiled based on the following criteria: 500-2,000 undergraduate population, availability of campus housing, graduate degrees offered, over 50 percent graduation rate, a student to faculty ratio of 15:1 or less, and a 74 percent or higher retention rate.
The College of Mount Saint Vincent was recognized not only for its excellent programs and unique, pastoral campus, but also for its progressive environmental stance, such as the installation of 1,400 solar panels in Villa Lot—the College’s largest parking facility—last fall. The canopies are one of the largest known solar arrays in New York City. Through use of the solar project, the College expects to cut its overall electrical costs by over $100,000 per year.
Best College Reviews recognizes the value of small colleges, which offer the opportunity for students to enjoy a close-knit, neighborly campus, acquiring an intimacy generally lacking at larger institutions.
